I've been too busy catching up with the series to do much exploring. Great series.

You might be interested to know that cocaine is still used in surgery today. When the ENT surgeons are working on the nasal passages, they use cocaine as a topical because of it's ability to prevent bleeding. I believe it is used in oral surgery for the same properties. I know it surprised me when I stated working in the recovery room to learn this.

Anyhow, keep up the good work. I look forward to the next Daisy Gumm novel.

Kilianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04331306831892847839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2183201547392787469.post-54209752374003730822017-05-03T09:06:55.914-07:002017-05-03T09:06:55.914-07:00Thanks, Carol. This is such an interesting and informative blog! People died young in the 20's. That's for certain. I meant to mention in the blog that, when I was in the periodical room of the Pasadena Public Library a few years ago, I went through newspapers from 1920, and found an article about a young man (21, I think) who died of ptomaine poisoning! That's another thing we don't have to think about these days.Alice Duncanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04617808704864502171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2183201547392787469.post-74721240755596303032017-05-02T10:29:36.093-07:002017-05-02T10:29:36.093-07:00I love all that historical medical information, Al...I love all that historical medical information, Alice. I'm always surprised at how recent is the introduction of antibiotics. We really take them for granted. I love how you enjoy history because you like to believe the past was so much nicer, even though you know it wasn't. I am with you on that one. Several years ago, a major storm knocked out our power for over two days.
