Termites Ate My Blog
Oh . . . very well, termites didn’t eat my blog. But they ate my bathroom floor, and I had to have a new one put in, and the disruption in the household turned me into a basket case, and I didn't write a July blog. I regret to admit that I'm easily upset. I think it's because I’m old and set in my ways and like things to stay the way they are. Just the wieners and me in this dumpy little house, editing, writing, eating, and walking (well we all do the last two. I do the first two by myself).

Shoot. I honestly didn't realize what a slave to routine I was until termites ate my bathroom floor. But everything’s better now, including the bathroom. Good thing it’s a small one, or the termites might have eaten the whole house (the issue being money):

Not only that, but a new Daisy Gumm Majesty book, DARK SPIRITS, was released in July, and I darned near missed it! I’ll be giving away copies of DARK SPIRITS this month. If you’d like to enter to win a copy, send me your name and home address at alice@aliceduncan.net

I’ll be in touch with the folks who won copies of RESTLESS SPIRITS individually. Sorry I’m so late.

Things are back to normal now. I have too much work to do, too many dogs to care for, and still live in the Middle of Nowhere. But at least I have a new bathroom. And a new book out! And, to add to the excitement, I’m in a running battle with the local newspaper (which is really, really bad, but it’s the only game in town). It’s odd how a good fight can perk a person up J

At least you're writing something fresh. I'm buried lost in rewriting a will be for the foreseeable future. I hope you're up to a bit more editing.

Thanks, Wally. I have to admit it's getting harder and harder for me to write books lately. Don't know why. Maybe I'm just tired. Maybe I've already said everything I had to say :-)

Maybe a new bathroom will help in your creative process?! And, I'm convinced you need a vacation to rejuvenate yourself. All that disruption and heat. Ugh. Maybe you can get a groupon for a weekend stay somewhere not too far, and it has a pool.

Thanks, Sue. I'm actually contemplating going to Woofstock, a dog-related party in Edgewood (right next to Albuquerque). I'd be helping New Mexico Dachshund Rescue and getting away from it all at the same time. It would only be a weekend, but it sounds like fun. It's a long drive, though, and my own dogs would have to be cared for by my neighbors.

Going to Woofstock sounds like a great idea. Your puppies will be fine. (signed - your neighbor) :)

Thanks, Ann. I don't know what I'd do without you and Barry. Or what my dogs would do. Especially Cookie. Sigh.

Go to Woofstock, Alice! You deserve a little time off right now. Think of it as a celebration for releasing Dark Spirits ~ and maybe it will provide copy of Daisy, you never know!

Hi, Alice,

New bathroom, new book! What could be better? Congrats on both and best wishes. The final products make the headaches go away.

A new bathroom and a new book? I'd love a new bathroom. Now that you're back to writing and posting, what about the fight with the newspaper? That sounds interesting. Glad things are looking up finally.

Thanks, Jacquie and Susan. As for the newspaper (which is really bad), I subscribe, but it's kind of a toss-up as to whether It'll be delivered every day. Even when I call the circ. dept. or my carrier, a paper never shows up. So I wrote a letter. Heh heh heh. They're after me now. They do everything else so poorly, it'll be interesting to see if they keep it up :-)

We just had our two bathrooms remodeled. I procrastinated about not writing because of the demolition noise. My den is between both baths. I need a vacation. And you need time away for fun. Enjoy Woodstock.

Both at the same time??!! I'd have gone totally bonkers. I only have the one, and it about did me in. But the house has no more termites!

Think I will attend Woofstock!

The worst is remodeling a bathroom when you only have one, and it takes forever, and you have to use a bucket in the meantime. Congratulations, Alice - new bathroom and new novel! Yay!

Thanks, Catherine! I'm SO glad I didn't have to use a bucket :-)
